MS student studying vertical axis wind turbines

Kevin Vargas is pursuing an MS in Mathematics and applying his math knowledge to this segment of sustainable energy

His research deals with the experimental and computational modeling of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs). He has been conducting wind-tunnel experiments in the department’s Complex Fluids Laboratory through which he can determine the efficiency of independently and commercially made VAWTs.

As a member of the prestigious NJEDA’s Wind Institute Fellowship program, Kevin has been researching arrays for VAWTs. His work could lead to the development of onshore and offshore wind farms in New Jersey.
