MSU Modeling Group Presents at Conference
Posted in: Faculty and Student Research, Mathematics Education PhD, Students and Alumni
Doctoral students from MSU’s mathematics education program recently presented their original research at the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators annual conference in New Orleans, LA. This research team consists of Geena Taite, Amanda Provost, Youngjun Kim, Frank Forte, and Andre Perkoski. Their session, entitled Designing and Implementing Professional Development on Mathematical Modeling, shared the cyclic process of designing and implementing professional development on mathematical modeling through action research. Participants in the session also engaged in a short mathematical modeling task to experience the benefits and challenges of mathematical modeling. This research stems from an MSU working group on mathematical modeling education, independently formed by doctoral students and inspired, in part, by Dr. DiNapoli’s MATH 812 class (Spring 2021) and Dr. Panorkou’s MATH 742 class (Spring 2022). Congratulations to this impressive and highly motivated group of young scholars!
