Mathematical science professors and students co-author publication in the International Journal of Non-linear Mechanics
On the equilibrium configurations of flexible fibers in a flow

Mathematical science masters students, Ryan Allaire, Pamela Guerron, and Peter Nolan, co-authored a publication titled “On the equilibrium configurations of flexible fibers in a flow” with professors Bogdan Nita and Ashwin Vaidya. “Doing the research for and writing this article was so valuable and important”, says student author Ryan Allaire. “I learned about the scientific process and being systematic in the research effort. Just realizing how much work goes into each paper was an eye opener.” Mathematical Science chairperson Helen Roberts applauds the collaboration. “It is wonderful to see how closely our faculty and students work together on research projects. Students gain so much participating in research inquiry and faculty find engaging students in research collaboration a uniquely rewarding experience.” The article appeared online December 2014 with the print version scheduled to be released March 2015.
