Doctoral candidate Toni York, recent PhD graduate Dr. Erell Germia, and their advisor Dr. Nicole Panorkou recently published the paper “Using Debugging As A Platform For Transdisciplinary Learning” in the journal Cognition and Instruction.
The paper details a Scratch programming activity where students utilized what they learned about math and science in a Rock Cycle module to debug (fix) the path that a rock named George needs to follow. This study was a result of their work in their ACMES project “Assimilating Computational and Mathematical Thinking through Earth and Environmental Science” which was funded by the National Science Foundation.
