Alumna Finds Directing Success
When Lorene Scafaria ’99 was just 5 years old, her aunt gave her business cards that read, “Author.” In fourth grade, she was writing and directing plays. Today, she is a successful screenwriter, playwright, actress and film director.
Scafaria is best known for her work on the films Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008) and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012). Most recently, she wrote and directed the crime comedy film Hustlers (2019), based on a New York Magazine article from 2015, “The Hustlers at Scores,” by Jessica Pressler.
Hustlers received the widest release of Scafaria’s career and was met with positive reviews from critics as well as general audiences.
Scafaria graduated from Montclair State in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Theatre.
