From the President

As part of our mission as a University, we are committed to extending Montclair State's scholarly, research, technical, intellectual, professional and cultural resources to benefit the communities, state and region we serve. And we don't stop just there. In this issue, we take a look at the University's positive and growing impact on the world. In many ways, both large and small, we are changing things for the better – and in ways that extend well beyond the boundaries of our campus.

Locally, in Orange, our students, faculty and researchers are creating the state's first University-Assisted Full-Service School to help families succeed; in Paterson, they are reaching thousands of teens with effective substance abuse and HIV prevention programs; and in Newark, they are providing outstanding teachers for that city's public schools. In addition, as a part of the Montclair Community Farms Coalition, the University is collaborating with local agencies to bring nutritional education to children and fresh vegetables to the elderly.

On a national level, University researchers are working to fight bioterrorism through the development of an antidote to the deadly botulinum toxin, a potentially powerful bioterror weapon, while at the University's New Jersey School of Conservation in Stokes State Forest, our faculty are at the forefront of sustainability in creating a model educational program in conservation being used by schools around the world.

Whether we're helping veterans on campus tell their war stories through art or working in partnership with Fairtrade International to eliminate child labor in countries like Paraguay, the Montclair State community is always mindful that our work has the capacity to impact the lives of others for the better.

With your sustained, generous support, we will continue to change our world every day.

Thank you,

Susan A. Cole
