The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has designated Montclair State University as a Community Engaged Campus, affirming the University's long-standing dedication and commitment to community engagement.
The University was among 240 institutions to receive the 2015 Community Engaged Campus designation and joins such campuses as Georgetown University, Duke University, The University of Texas at Austin, New York University and UCLA in being nationally recognized by the Foundation.
In addition, the Service-Learning Program at Montclair State is now the Center for Community Engagement. Under the direction of Bryan Murdock, the Center had grown beyond service-learning courses, said President Susan A. Cole, when making the announcement.
"Its substantial portfolio of private and federal grants and its numerous community outreach programs, along with the Carnegie classification announcement, make this change appropriate at this time," she said.
The Carnegie classification goes to the heart of the University's educational mission to address issues of public concern in the greater community.
