Students Win Traffic Safety Award
For the second year in a row, Montclair State University Industrial Design students won the grand prize in the World Traffic Symposium’s Designs for Safety competition held during the New York International Automobile Show at Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Center. Sophomores Arielle Cardone and Noemi Nagy won the grand prize in the competition for “protectaRail,” their design for a system to reduce injuries to passengers in cars that crash into guardrails.
“Winning this prize means a lot. The major requires tons of effort, time and skill, so to be recognized for that means a lot more than the money,” said Cardone, referring to the $5,000 grand prize they received in April.
Joining Cardone and Nagy in the winner’s circle was fellow industrial design major Pablo Moscoso, who took second place for “Rhino Guard,” his design for sub compact vehicles that helps protect passengers in the event of a high-speed crash.
“It is a big achievement for students to submit entries to national competitions – let alone win them,” said Denis Feigler, director of the Industrial Design program. “It’s very exciting.”
