Emmy Award-winning actress S. Epatha Merkerson captured the hope and anticipation of the future at Commencement when she addressed Montclair State’s Class of 2013: “Keep your eyes open – don’t miss a thing. You are at a moment of endless possibilities in your life,” said Merkerson, best known for her 16-year role as Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on NBC’s Law & Order.

‌The University graduated its largest class ever, granting 3,273 undergraduate and 1,047 graduate degrees on May 24. Amid the cheering and tossing of mortarboards, graduates and their families celebrated the culmination of years of hard work at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. The day of jubilation included the return of members of ‌‌the Class of 1963 ‌for their 50th reunion.
