Softball honors 1992 and 1997 NCAA World Series teams
The softball program honored its 1992 and 1997 NCAA Division III Softball Championship teams prior to the Red Hawks doubleheader with The College of New Jersey in April.
Team members and coaching staff, led by current Montclair State head coach Anita Kubicka, were honored at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center and at the Red Hawks’ first game, where they were also recognized.
In 1992, the Montclair State softball team went to the NCAA Regional Tournament as the fourth seed and lost its first game, but came back to win the next four and advanced to the NCAA Championship. The Red Hawks continued their Cinderella run, finishing third in the NCAA national tournament.
Five years later, the 1997 squad came within two victories of the national championship, finishing as runner-up in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship. Montclair State set the then school record for wins with a 38-11 record, which included the program’s second NJAC Championship, an NCAA regional victory and a trip to the NCAA finals.
