Staying Connected: Accounting Affinity Group
Alumni of the Accounting Department have come together to form the newest affinity group – a group with a shared common bond or mutual interest. These affinity groups not only allow alumni to connect with one another, but they also provide a way for students to relate to alumni in a more meaningful way.
This past May, accounting alumni and current students gathered at the Valley Regency in Montclair for a reception with the Accounting Society, a student organization. The night provided an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with former classmates and faculty members, and for current students to network with alumni. This event will be held annually each spring. In addition, many alumni will return this fall when the department celebrates the career of Accounting Professor Irene Douma at a retirement reception.
Department Chair Frank Aquilino says, “Having a strong network of accounting alumni is crucial to the success of our current students. The opportunity for students to network with alumni who have gone on to be successful in their field is invaluable.” The group also provides opportunities for alumni to expand their professional networks.
“As an alumnus, I am excited to see more business students and graduates taking advantage of all the resources that the University has to offer, including each other,” says Peter Motsch ’10. “Our network is strong, diverse and successful. And today, when networking is no longer a luxury but a necessity, it is encouraging to know that I am a part of this network.”
