The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has selected six institutions to co-host the 2026 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Institute. Montclair State University Libraries and five other New Jersey academic institutions will co-sponsor the event at Rutgers University. The DEI Institute aims to enhance participants’ ability to foster positive change within their communities by focusing on DEI principles, organizational development, and leadership. This work is currently made possible through the generous support of an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program implementation grant.

In the ARL press release, Dean of Libraries Danianne Mizzy stated “Montclair State University Libraries are honored to co-sponsor the 2026 ARL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Institute. This event serves as a critical platform to foster meaningful change. We believe in the power of academic libraries to advance DEI initiatives for their universities and communities, and we look forward to welcoming colleagues to New Jersey for a productive and inspiring experience.”

The co-hosting institutions expressed their enthusiasm for advancing DEI efforts in academia. Leaders from Montclair State University, and other co-hosts also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to drive meaningful change across the academic library community.
