Reference Services for Fall 2024

Welcome back to Montclair State University for the Fall ‘24 semester! At University Libraries, we look forward to sticking by your side as you work on your projects and study your research interests. There are several options you can choose from to Ask a Librarian.

24/7 Live Chat Support

If you are conducting in-depth academic research, looking for specific resources, or looking for guidance on using our library services, professional librarians are available to assist no matter the time of day. Chat today!

On-Call Reference

To complement our 24/7 Live Chat service and other forms of research support, University Libraries’ on-call reference service is available throughout the year. This on-demand service is for patrons who prefer to speak with a librarian in-person or via telephone about their research questions.  For in-person questions, please stop at the Front Desk of the library Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m., and the staff there will call the librarian on duty to come out and meet with you. Alternatively, if you call the Front Desk at 973-655-4288 during on-call hours with a research question, they can transfer you to the librarian on call.

Research Appointments

We understand that there are times where you may need a little bit more in-depth help. You can receive direct, personalized assistance with your assignment or project by scheduling a research appointment with a librarian. Book a research appointment today!

Liaison Librarians

Each of our librarians specialize in specific subject areas and serve as a liaison to the corresponding departments. Students looking for assistance in their subject area as well as faculty who would like to request library instruction with a librarian can find a list of liaisons on our website.
