“The Italian Program at Montclair State prepared me for the job market in NYC because of the range of topics covered, and the dedication of the faculty to teaching those topics. I left Montclair State a well-rounded, well-read, and well-traveled young professional, confident in my abilities, and with a wonderful support system in my former professors. That confidence allowed me to learn new skills on my journey and apply them to the positions I have held in the Italian food service and hospitality management industry!”

“I work for Casper, and having a background in German was essential to getting my first job here. I was actually recruited (which is very rare for startups) because I had some experience with Accounts Payable, and a German degree. My company was expanding to Germany, and needed a way to translate and account for invoices coming from our new business. I was one of only two people they found with qualification in NYC, and was able to land a job here. I was excited to use both of my degrees as I wasn’t sure if that was a real possibility, but I can assure you it is! I’ve been here for almost 3 years now, and I can’t describe how happy I am.”
Karim Romero (’10)
Spanish Translation Certificate
“My studies at Montclair State created the foundation I needed to achieve my dream of having my own translation company. When I came to this country, I already spoke English and was eager to learn more. My studies helped me realize the unique linguistic challenges of non-English speakers. Motivated by this experience, I have been able to provide effective translation and tutoring services to the immigrant community, who strive daily to learn, adapt, and communicate better. What started as a curiosity to learn more about the English language developed into a career, and was the beginning of my language translation and tutoring company, Certified Language Solutions, which currently offers translation services in more than 20 languages.”

“When I received Dr. Antenos’ invitation and found out about the new degree program at MSU I felt compelled to respond and show my support. I had read about so many depressing stories announcing the elimination of language programs in universities across the nation that, for once, I could read about a new initiative filled with excitement and hope. A degree combining business, language, and culture! One that will create bridges between communities and connect students with a world of opportunities. I knew I had to be part of it.”

Those are things that are so important and a program like Language, Business and Culture will help students acquire both the linguistic and cultural aspects while developing additional skills.”
