Award-Winning Bass-Baritone Cali Alum Shines in National Competition
Congratulations to Cali Alum Jason Zacher (BM 2016 – Music Education) on Winning Second Place at the 2024 Lotte Lenya Competition!

From a competitive pool of 286 applicants, Jason excelled through the audition process, advancing to the final round on May 4th. The Lotte Lenya Competition, founded by The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, recognizes exceptional talent in both acting and vocal performance. Jason, a bass-baritone, has earned national acclaim for his versatility across opera, concert, and musical theatre. He has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, The Atlanta Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, Kentucky Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Ars Lyrica Houston. His recent accolades include winning Second Prize at the Lotte Lenya Competition and being named an NY District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
For the 2024-25 season, Jason will return to The Glimmerglass Festival, performing in Elizabeth Cree and The Pirates of Penzance, and will also join The Atlanta Opera’s Studio Artist Program for a second year, appearing in La bohème, The Magic Flute, and Macbeth.
