A Favorite Rock + Rap Music History Course Re-imagined and Updated Featuring Hip-Hop

The Cali School of Music is pleased to announce that it is adding a section of MUGN 120, Rap and Rock as Cultural Phenomena, (MUGN 120 05 26831, W 5:30–8pm) that will concentrate on the development of Hip Hop:

This course will investigate the origins, implications, and intersectionalities of hip-hop music. From local art form to global phenomenon, hip-hop has changed music and society in myriad ways. We will examine the cultural, technological, and aesthetic development of this musical genre over time and space. 

This 3-credit course fulfills the Fine and Performing Arts General Education Requirement, and serves as an elective in the Humanities major and the African-American Studies minor.

Teo Beauchamp, the instructor, is experienced as a musician, producer, and engineer. He is also a seasoned writer and reader of poetry. He has recited his poetry at a number of venues including the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe in New York and Tanners, The Billiard Inn, The Poetry Lounge, Midnight Special, Beyond Baroque and The Actors Gang in Los Angeles. He has also performed at the regional poetry slam competition in Big Sur California with the Los Angeles slam team.
