With the many talents of the students, faculty and staff of Montclair State University’s College of the Arts on full display, supporters of the arts and of arts education filled the Alexander Kasser Theater on April 11 for an evening of musical and theatrical entertainment at the benefit event, “An Evening for the Arts.”
Featuring performances by College of the Arts students and by the University’s artists-in-residence, the Shanghai Quartet, the evening was a showcase of the variety of programs that the College of the Arts offers, as well as the accomplishments of its students. The event was also a benefit to provide scholarship and financial support for the students and programs of the College and gave supporters a chance to contribute to the future of arts education at Montclair State.
“Educating the next generation of the world’s artists is critical to the preservation of human culture,” said President Susan A. Cole in her welcome message. “I thank you all for helping Montclair State University to continue to provide the educational foundations that support the development of great young artists.”
The program featured not only those in the performing arts but also the talents of the students of the Department of Art and Design, news from the School of Communication and Media and a chance to honor one of the College’s many success stories, alumnus Michael Price ’81, an Emmy Award-winning writer and producer for the long-running hit television show, The Simpsons.
The dazzling student performances were met with ovations from the enthusiastic audience, who were later able to express their appreciation in person as they mingled with the performers after the show.
