Wind Quintet from Sweden joins the Cali School of Music
Posted in: Cali News
The Cali School of Music welcomes Arctic 5, also known as the Wind Quintet from Sweden, as its Graduate Woodwind Quintet-in-Residence. The musicians come from several areas in Sweden, from Piteå in the north to Göteborg in the south.
Arctic 5 performs the standard classical pieces for quintet written by composers such as Nielsen, Ligeti, Haydn, and Reicha, modern works, and popular music from different genres. They are interested in very different kinds of historical, modern and popular musical expressions, and work to shape their performances with a deep understanding and learning of the differences in musical genres. They have performed at the festival Festspelen in Piteå, the Culture House in Rättvik, Gällivare Church and many other halls throughout Sweden.
Members of the Graduate Woodwind Quintet-in-Residence are fellowship recipients enrolled in the Cali School’s Artist’s Diploma program. They will study and coach with the faculty members of the Montclair Woodwind Quintet in preparation for performances and international competitions. They will perform at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Concert Hall and venues throughout the tri-state area, perform for recruitment and donor events, serve as core members of the MSU Symphony Orchestra and/or bands, and as members of the Montclair Orchestra.
