College of the Arts Holds Convocation Ceremony

Montclair State University’s College of the Arts held its Convocation ceremony on Sunday, May 13 at the University’s Sprague Field. Family and friends of many of the 519 candidates slated to receive baccalaureate degrees from the College filled the stands.

Legendary dancer, choreographer, and arts educator, Jacques d’Amboise, delivered the Convocation address and received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University. President Susan A. Cole, Board of Trustees member Rose Cali, and Dean Geoffrey Newman offered words of welcome and greeting.

The Leonardis Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Department of Broadcasting alumna Karen Horne ’08, vice president of Diversity Programs for NBC Entertainment, for her significant contributions to the fields of entertainment, television, and digital media.

The College of the Arts Distinguished Faculty Awards were presented to professors David Singer and John Czerkowciz. Dean Geoffrey Newman, who is retiring this June, received the College’s Distinguished Leader Award.
