La Scala di Seta (The Silken Ladder) by Gioacchino Rossini

Montclair State University Opera Workshop, Jeffrey Gall, Director Montclair State University Symphony Orchestra, Paul Hostetter, Director.

In partnership with the University’s Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America, the Montclair State University Opera Workshop and Symphony join forces to offer a fully-staged production of Rossini’s beloved operatic romp. La Scala di Seta portrays the confusion that results when a girl and her lover try unsuccessfully to conceal their secret marriage from the young lady’s guardian. A masterpiece of comic timing, complete with characters hidden in closets who misunderstand what they overhear to hilarious effect, the opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles.
