University Singers at Cathedral Basilica, Newark – April 18

Montclair State University Singers perform their only major off-campus concert of 2009-10 season at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark (NJ), on Sunday, April 18 at 2 pm. Heather J. Buchanan conductor, with guest artists Renee Louprette (organ) and Peter Stewart (baritone).

Repertoire highlights include two World Premiere performances by MSU student composers who are also members of the group:  Ave Maria (martin Sedek) and Gloria in excelsis Deo (Thomas Oltarzewski). The audience with be treated to a variety of exquisite choral music ranging from choral anthems from the English cathedral tradition, to A Cappella Romantic motets and part-songs, and music from the African American Tradition (Gospel & Spirituals). MSU student soloists will also be featured in Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music.  Guest faculty artists Renee Louprette and Peter Stewart, baritone, will perform Oliver Latry’s Salve Regina.

Free and open to the public. Doors open one hour prior to the concert. All events are open seating and available on a first come first serve basis.

From the Garden State Parkway
Take Exit 145 (Newark-The Oranges) to I-280 EAST to Exit 13 (Newark-First Street).
LEFT at bottom of ramp onto FIRST STREET. Continue through the first traffic light.
At second light turn RIGHT onto PARK AVENUE.
At second light turn RIGHT onto CLIFTON AVE.
Cathedral will be on the right.
From the NJ Turnpike
Exit 15-W to I-280 West to Exit 14A (Clifton Avenue). Up ramp, RIGHT at light onto Clifton Ave. Cathedral is ahead on the left.
Parking
Secure on-street parking is available on all surrounding streets. Parking lots are located at the north end of the Cathedral and across Clifton Avenue in the Archdiocesan Center. Ramped entrance on Ridge Street.
