JOHN J. CALI SCHOOL HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL BRASS DAY ON SUNDAY, APRIL 18, 2010 FROM 11 AM TO 9 PM WITH GUEST CLINICIAN CHRIS JAUDES

The John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University will host its second annual Brass Day on Sunday, April 18, 2010.  The event will feature prominent trumpet artist Chris Jaudes as a guest clinician, and as soloist in the evening Brass Recital.  The entire day’s activities are free of charge; reservations are requested.  All brass players are invited to attend, and to perform in the MSU Massive Brass on the evening’s concert!

Participants will arrive at 11 am and attend clinics and workshops on such essentials as warming up, breathing, phrasing, performing under pressure, and aspects of advanced technique.  An unusual feature of the day’s activities is the opportunity for high school chamber brass groups, such a brass quintets, to work and be coached side-by-side with Cali School student groups and a faculty coach in a master class setting.

A lunch will be served to all participants (reservations are required-see below).  After the Chris Jaudes master class, vendor displays of instruments and equipment will be available, and there are several options for dinner on campus or nearby. Finally, everyone will attend the Brass Recital at 7:30 pm in the Student Center Ballroom.  Admission to the recital is free to the public.  The program will include Chris Jaudes, the featured soloist, and soloist Jason Ham, a leading star of the euphonium world who is a member of the Cali School Faculty.   A variety of Cali School brass groups, and the MSU Massive Brass, an extravaganza of brass playing that includes all brass players in attendance, will round out the evening’s performance.

Brass Day events will take place in the new Cali School of Music building, Chapin Hall, which is immediately adjacent to the Normal Avenue campus entrance. The evening recital is located at the Student Center, a short walk across campus.  Tours of the new building will be available during the day.  Directions and a map may be found at http://www.montclair.edu/map/.   Check out our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=360208272445.  For more information, and to reserve space for this event, please contact Cali School Brass Coordinator Don Batchelder at 973-715-1862 or donbatchelder@verizon.net
