Instructional Technology and Design Services invites you to our faculty development event to help you get ready for the Fall semester! This year, we will be offering this event Online on Thursday, August 22.

This event will include sessions focused on course design best practices, how to set up and design your Fall course in Canvas, AI and other generative technologies, as well as strategies for effective assessment and student engagement. These sessions are applicable to teaching in-person, online or hybrid. Below, you can find a preview of some of the sessions we’ll be hosting:

Course Design Best Practices
The iterative process of course design relies on the growth and development of faculty’s comfort with technology and utilization of sound pedagogical strategies. In this session, instructional designers will share the course design process promoted by the Instructional Technology and Design Services group to enhance the teaching and learning experience for faculty and students alike.

 

Canvas Mastery: Crafting Your Course for Success Including the New Montclair Syllabus
From creating an announcement to designing a course landing page, this session will give you all the tools you need to build a solid, accessible Canvas course incorporating the new Montclair Syllabus. We will also share Canvas tips & tricks to ensure you have everything you need to effectively and efficiently prepare your Fall courses.

 

Teaching with Generative AI: Responding with Effective Instructional Design
Generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot have exploded in popularity and pose many questions in higher education related to academic integrity and the authenticity of work produced by our students. This workshop empowers faculty with an overview of AI text generators, assessment design approaches for mitigating misuse, considerations on leveraging these tools to enhance learning activities, and developing an AI policy for your fall courses.

 

Maximizing Student Engagement with Instructional Technologies
Looking for ideas to keep students engaged in your Fall courses? Come and join us to learn how you can utilize several instructional technologies (Padlet, Miro, Hypothesis, and Poll Everywhere) to enrich your course activities, foster student collaboration, and allow for multiple methods of contribution and expression.

 

Get Ready for Canvas New Quizzes
New Quizzes is the new quiz tool now available in Canvas. New Quizzes allows for new question types, additional quiz setting options, and enhanced student performance analytics. In this session, you will learn about the new quiz options (Hot Spot, Categorization, and Stimulus questions) and the differences between our current quiz tool and New Quizzes.
