A Montclair State alum (BA. English), college writing consultant/tutor, as well as a freelance writer/proofreader, Caroline Howell brings a diversified education and creative background as the Institute for the Humanities’ new program assistant.
Referencing her previous life here on campus — once upon a time — as an undergraduate, Caroline comments, “Just walking in the main entrance of Dickson each time I come to work in the building where many of my classes, such as Women Prose Writers and Creative Nonfiction, were held has been surreal to say the least.” “I am looking forward to the next ‘chapter’ of my MSU experience, contributing my corporate and higher education background to the Institute,” she notes.
Caroline’s prior higher education experience includes working in marketing for a local community college, which brought the opportunity not only to help promote school events through writing and overall departmental support, but also actually to participate in planning events such as Commencement.
“The literature major in me sees the overriding ‘theme’ of my varied work experiences as helping others by sharing information (through promotional event writing or assisting students with their writing), facilitating events, or participating in events related to students, such as Open Houses, ” she says. Caroline hopes her enthusiasm for coordinating the Institute’s events going forward, will encourage appreciation for the humanities in current high school — and possibly future — Montclair State students, and that it will help enhance the Institute’s presence on the University campus.
