Adapted from a 2017 best-selling novel by Donatella Di Pietrantonio, Giuseppe Bonito’s third feature (winner of the 2022 David di Donatello Award for Best Adapted Screenplay – script co-written by Donatella Di Pietrantonio and Monica Zapelli).) is an entrancing and emotionally precise meditation on childhood and family set in the summer of 1975. An adopted 13-year-old girl arrives at a farmstead, having been sent against her will to live with her birth family, whom she has never met before. Surrounded by strangers in a smaller, shabbier house than that of her wealthier adoptive parents, she must grapple with a new life in a new daily environment, as well as the feelings of abandonment brought on by her reunion with the family she never knew (source: Lincoln Center website).
Giuseppe Bonito is an Italian director best known for his work on films like Figli (2020), A Girl Returned (2021), Pulce non c’è (2012) and Bang Bang Baby (2022), a TV series.
