On Thur. Sept. 22 (1-2:15pm) at Schmitt Hall 119, Dr. Laurence Jay-Rayon Ibrahim Aibo, director of the Center for Translation and Interpreting on campus, will give an in-class talk offered in connection with ITAL345 “Italian Translation for Tourism and Cultural Promotion” taught by Dr. Marisa Trubiano (Schmitt Hall 119). The talk will focus on the use of Computer-assisted-translation tools, which play an important part in the life of translators, especially when they are dealing with longer or repetitive texts.

Such tools are used to manage terminology and reference materials, ensure consistency throughout the text, provide quality control, and preserve the formatting of source texts.

In this short introductory demonstration, students will learn to use Wordfast, the CAT tool that is installed in Montclair State University’s Translation and Interpreting Lab, located in Schmitt Hall.

The in-class talk is the first of this year’s series on Italian Translation. Please visit the series page for a comprehensive view on the program and more info on the speakers.

This program is spearheaded and sponsored by The Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies (Department of Spanish and Italian) in collaboration with the Center for Translation and Interpreting at Montclair State University.
