The Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies is pleased to invite you to “Italian Writings Abroad,” the presentation of two groundbreaking anthologies of Italian writings (in translation) which document the contributions of Italians to the literature of the U.S. as well as that of many countries around the world: Italoamericana: The Literature of the Great Migration 1880-1943, and Poets of the Italian Diaspora, A Bilingual Anthology, both published by Fordham University Press.

Italoamericana is a landmark collection of translated writings that in establishing a rich, diverse, and mature sense of Italian-American life allows readers to see American society through the eyes of Italian-speaking immigrants who considered their communities as colonies of the mother country. This publication will be presented by Robert Viscusi (General Editor of the American Edition), Anthony J. Tamburri (Translations Editor), and James J. Periconi (Bibliographic Editor), with readings by Giulia Prestia (Translator).

Poets of the Italian Diaspora is the first-ever anthology devoted to the literature of the Italian diaspora that places it in a global context, and presents a truly international selection of works by more than seventy Italian-language poets who are writing in countries from Australia to Venezuela. This publication will be presented by Luigi Bonaffini and Joseph Perricone (Co-editors) with readings by Peter Carravetta (US Section Curator) and Paolo Valesio (Featured Poet).

Join us to learn about the cultural role of Italian emigration through the stories of experts who have devoted years of work to bring this precious archive to the surface.

This event is presented by the Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian-American Studies at Montclair State University.
