Shift to Primarily Laptops as University-Assigned Equipment

As the University is experiencing an expansion in flexible working arrangements along with more frequent unforeseen circumstances that may not permit being on campus, the Information Technology group is asking that all employees eligible for computer replacements or new computers select laptops rather than desktops.

Please also keep in mind that laptops acquired through research or startup funding are typically not managed by IT, and thus are generally less secure, so not recommended for University business involving sensitive data.

Going forward, we ask that there be justification for any desktop computer requests and Dean/VP approval.

The process will be the same as that in place for Apple or advanced configuration requests, as described in the Non-Default Workstation Request Process.
