Adobe Flash Removal
Posted in: News
Adobe previously announced the end of life for their Flash product to take effect on December 31, 2020 due to the advancements made in other web technologies. Beginning January 12, 2021, Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player. Adobe strongly recommends all users immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems. What does this mean to you?
University-managed workstations – If you use a University-managed workstation, the University will uninstall Flash for you through our automatic software updates on or after Monday, January 4th, 2021. Flash will not be permitted to be reinstalled due to the potential of security vulnerabilities.
Specialty Software not directly supported by the Division of Information Technology or your local Technology Team – Please take this time to ensure that all specialty and/or research software that is being utilized has been fully updated to eliminate the use of Flash technology.
As this update affects many devices, we encourage all users to check their personal devices. For further details including what to do if you are using non-University managed laptops and desktops, please visit Adobe Flash Player End of Life page.
