Teacher Education and Certification Programs
Are you interested in becoming a school teacher? Or are you a teacher looking for an additional certification? We are dedicated to preparing and supporting knowledgeable teachers who develop a strong set of commitments to equity and diversity, critical thinking and social responsibility. Our nationally and internationally recognized Teacher Education Program has many unique features, which include curricular emphasis, the Center of Pedagogy, as well as partnerships with local schools and communities. The program has been accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) since 1954.

For those interested in becoming a teacher who have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and would like to obtain their Masters of Arts in Teaching as well as certification in one of the following areas.
MAT Programs:
For those interested in becoming a teacher who have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and would like to obtain their Masters of Arts in Teaching as well as certification in one of the following areas in addition to certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities (special education).
MAT Dual Certification Programs:
Montclair State University offers accelerated five-year teacher education tracks that will earn you a bachelor’s degree, Master of Arts in Teaching, teacher certification in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education (or a content area) and certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities (special education). Applicants to these programs must be current students already working on the bachelor’s degree portion of the track in the corresponding area.
If your previous academic study didn’t offer teacher certification, or if you are already a teacher but would like to obtain certification in a new area, Montclair State University offers post-baccalaureate Teacher Certification programs in the following areas.
For those interested in obtaining additional teaching certification, Montclair State offers a variety of options at the post-baccalaureate and master’s level to help educators advance their careers and expand their knowledge.
