Announcing the return of our Urban Teacher Residency program!
Posted in: Program News, The Graduate School
We are thrilled to share that the Urban Teacher Residency program with Montclair State is returning and will be accepting students to begin the program in the June 2021. The Urban Teacher Residency program is designed to recruit talented individuals, especially people of color and individuals from other occupations, into the teaching force; improve the quality of both new and prospective teachers; increase teacher retention rates; and ultimately improve student achievement.
There are certain key benefits that come with studying in this program:
- The accelerated nature of the program is meant for full-time students and is completed in just 1 year.
- Upon completion of the program, students are guaranteed employment by working in the Newark or Orange school system for 3 years.
- We provide our students with an extremely generous stipend of $44,000 per year to help cover the cost of tuition and living expenses.
The Urban Teacher Residency program includes a residency that provides classroom immersion and mentorship. The program also prides itself on the use of a cohort structure as well as anti-racist and social justice pedagogies.
