Project Goal
To engage a graduate student (from a range of disciplines including marketing, public health, communications or media) to assist with a marketing campaign that generates increased understanding of public health as a career, importance in addressing our most pressing health-related challenges, and how the Montclair MPH can help interested students succeed in the field.
Objectives
- Create a marketing campaign that defines and identifies public health as a critical, valuable, and employment-rich field, and the Montclair MPH as a viable route into the field, particularly in Northern NJ and the surrounding area.
- Generate appropriate tag lines and simple messages to increase potential students’ interest in and understanding of the public health field, awareness of job opportunities, and how the MPH here prepares them to take advantage of those opportunities.
- Identify effective free and low-cost sites, venues, and markets for public health messaging, on-campus, at other campuses in the region, and at off-campus healthcare sites in northern NJ.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Department Chair and Administrator to set specific marketing goals.
- Conduct research using institutional, department, LinkedIn and other information about the success of our alumni
- Develop written and graphic messages for use in the marketing campaign.
- Create a specific ad campaign and distribution plan, to attract graduating and graduated students to the growing and critical field, specifically to the MPH program
- Create a plan with measurable goals to assess the success of the marketing/ad campaign
- Execute the marketing plan and the assessment plan
- Increase the Montclair State University Department of Public Health online presence with attractive content for both social media and LinkedIn
- Increase membership on the Dept. of Public Health private alumni group on LinkedIn; increase traffic to and improvement of content on our public-facing department webpage, Instagram site, and LinkedIn page.

- Ability to examine complex scenarios and think strategically to find solutions
- Ability to conduct research, analyze data, and convey information and ideas with clarity
- Social media skills for specific marketing strategies
- Entrepreneurial skills – such as innovation, creativity and curiosity – needed to organize and manage a marketing campaign that will assist an organization on the path to success
Required Training
The intern will receive training on: 2025 Carnegie Digital Marketing Workshop, a free virtual full day, April 1, 2025.
Key Deliverables
A specific and focused marketing campaign plan, with materials that are pilot-tested and ready to deploy in two different markets:
- Undergraduate students in science, education, communications, sociology, psychology, nutrition, and other targeted majors from four-year colleges, including on campus
- Healthcare and health-related workers with bachelor’s degrees, in the Northern NJ region, who may be interested in the MPH degree.
