The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (Buckley Amendment) prohibits the release of “personally identifiable” information contained in student records without the student’s consent. “Personally identifiable” means that the data include the name and/or address of the student, or a personal identifier such as a student’s social security number or a student number.
If students wish to be informed of their grades before they are available in NEST, they should supply the appropriate instructor with a stamped postcard or a self-addressed letter and stamped envelope, with a request to mail their grades.
