Support a Strong Finish

Encourage, coach, and remind students to focus and finish the semester strong.

This week’s “Be a Strong Student” message to students asks them to lock in and finish strong. When students “lock in” they become very focused and efficient. As the end of the term approaches, remind students of the benefits of managing their time productively in the short-term.

Here are some strategies instructors can implement to help support their efforts:

  • Be explicit about the time of term, pointing out key dates like assignment due dates or exams.
  • Remind students of your policy on late work. If you have students trying to finish up late work, make sure they understand what, if any, assignments you will accept. Help them prioritize their efforts.
  • Share your own strategies for getting things done, including overcoming challenges in doing so.
  • Suggest methods for setting limits on distractions, such as a Pomodoro or other timer for focused work or apps that limit time spent on other apps.
