Workshop Series
The Office for Faculty Excellence will continue to offer workshops on generative AI and its impacts on higher education throughout the spring semester. Introductory and Intermediate-level workshops will be available to help orient faculty in the field of generative AI, provide opportunities for hands-on experiments, and offer ideas on how to make use of generative AI tools in the classroom.
Faculty of all ranks are welcome to attend as many workshops as they would like, at the level that they find most comfortable and helpful for their needs. See below for registration links and additional information about each workshop in the series. All workshops in the series will be offered regularly.
Generative AI 101: What You Need to Know
Worried or curious about how generative AI is affecting teaching and learning? Wondering what you should do in your courses? For instructors who haven’t had a chance to investigate ChatGPT or other Generative AI, this session will provide an introduction and some live demos of what ChatGPT and other tools can do. We’ll provide an introductory overview of the generative AI field and its impacts on teaching and learning, including the plagiarism threat, assignment and course design tips, and possible need for curricular change. If you have an assignment you’d like to try, we’ll run it through for you so we can all view together what the tools can do. We’ll end with a few steps for instructors to take as they plan for courses.

Do-It-Now: Draft a Syllabus Policy on Generative AI
As new Generative AI tools emerge, it’s vital that instructors articulate a clear usage policy for their courses. Join us for a 30-minute hands-on session to draft a syllabus policy on Generative AI for your courses.
We will walk through the process of drafting a policy together, discussing the benefits and caveats of different policy options, potential pitfalls to be mindful of, and policy phrasing tips. Leave the session with a draft policy on Generative AI.

Generative AI 201: Integrating AI into Your Teaching Practice
Generative AI tools are being used by instructors to support and extend their teaching. You may have already explored some strategies, but if you are interested in learning about ways you can use Gen AI to develop course materials, identify omissions, create activities and assessments, and perhaps even help you assess student work, join us. Your ideas are welcome, too. This session is designed for instructors who have had a chance to investigate GenAI, and who are interested in leveraging it in their teaching.

Generative AI 301: Using Gen AI to Help Your Students Learn
Developing AI literacy skills will be essential for students in both their education and future careers. Join this session to explore strategies for helping students learn to use GenAI effectively and critically. From ethics to information evaluation to idea generation, students need practice and guidance in using GenAI with a critical mindset, open to its possibilities and aware of its flaws.
