Parking Information for Commuters
  • All commuter students parking on Montclair State University’s campus must be registered to a valid commuter permit or pay by hour using Paybyphone App.
  • All Montclair State University permits are virtual, meaning they are linked to your license plate number (no hang tags or decals). So, make sure your vehicle information is accurate.

Where Can I Park: Commuter Permit holders can park in following spaces:

  • Can park in Commuter Surface Lots 1, 3 & 5.
  • The designated lots can be viewed on Bloomfield Parking Map.

General Commuter Permit $260.00 (Plus tax)
Semester General Commuter Permit (Fall or Spring) $135.00 (Plus tax)
Evening Commuter Permit $125.00 (Plus tax)
Semester Evening Commuter Permit (Fall or Spring) $65.00 (Plus tax)
  • General Commuter Permit: $ 260.00 (Plus tax)
    • Valid September 1 – May 31.
    • Allows Parking in the Commuter Surface Lots# 1, 3 & 5.
    • Can park during the following hours with a General Commuter Permit.
      • Every Day: 6 a.m. – 3:30 a.m.
      • Weekends: 6 a.m. Thursday – 3:30 a.m. Monday
      • Weekday Overnight: Use Paybyphone method to pay for parking.
  • Evening Commuter Permit: $125.00 (Plus tax)
    • Valid September 1 – May 31.
    • Allows Parking in the Commuter Surface Lots# 1, 3 & 5.
    • Can park during the following hours with a General Commuter Permit.
      • Every Day: 4 p.m. – 3:30 AM
      • Weekends: 4 p.m. Thursday – 3:30 a.m. Monday
      • Weekday Overnight: Use Paybyphone method to pay for parking.
  • For Overnight Parking, use the PaybyPhone App to pay for parking.
    • Use Location code loc# 44037
    • Prepay available after 10 p.m.
    • Allows a user to pay for the time that their permit is not active.(Monday – Wednesday, 3:30 AM to 6:00 AM.)”
    • Overnight parking is available to commuter permit holders only.

Disability parking: Allows parking in designated disability-accessible or any non-reserved parking spaces on campus.

Parking Information for Residents
  • Undergraduate resident students with 29 credits or less are not eligible for parking permits on campus. However, students with extenuating circumstances can request a parking exception by completing the request form. Note that work purposes are not valid for exceptions.
  • Resident students with 30 credits or more are permitted to park on campus. All students parking on Montclair State University’s campus must be registered to a valid resident permit.

  • Resident Student Permit:
    • Valid September 1 – May 31.
    • Available to Sophomore, Junior, senior and graduate students.
    • Allows Parking in the Surface Lots# 1, 3 & 5 with no time restrictions.
Parking Information for Faculty/ Staff
  • All employees can obtain a parking permit upon completion of the hiring process (usually when a NetID has been issued).
    • The permit you can obtain is dependent on classifications issued by University Human Resources. All those who received complimentary parking must still register for a parking permit.

Where Can I Park: Faculty/Staff Permit holders can park in following spaces:

  • Can park in Surface Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 8.
  • The designated lots can be viewed on Bloomfield Parking Map.

Parking regulations: Below are the parking regulations for faculty and staff permits, issued according to HR classifications.

  • Full-time Faculty/Staff Permit:
    • Valid September 1 – May 31.
    • Available to full-time faculty, full-time staff, and adjunct faculty.
    • Allows Parking in the following areas with full-time Faculty/Staff permit. .
      • Allows parking in Faculty lots 2, 4, 6 and 8 with no time restrictions.
      • Also allows parking in commuter surface lots 1, 3 & 5 with no time restrictions
      • Weekday Overnight: Use Paybyphone method to pay for parking.
  • Part-Time Faculty/Staff Permit
    • Valid September 1 – May 31.
      • Available to non-contract employees. Not available if eligible for the Full-Time Faculty/Staff permit.
      • Allows Parking in the following areas with Part-time Faculty/Staff permit.
        • Allows parking in Faculty/Staff Restricted Lots (2,4,6,8) during the following hours:
          • Every Day: 3:30 p.m. – 6 a.m.
          • Weekends: 3:30 p.m. Friday – 6 a.m. Monday.
        • Also allows parking in commuter surface lots 1, 3 & 5 with no time restrictions.
Parking Information for Visitors
  • All guests and parents wishing to visit the campus for non-academic purposes, must pay to park by the hour.

We offer parking options for visitors:

  • Day Time Visitor:
    • Using the Paybyphone App to park by the hour in the Surface Lots 1, 3 & 5.
    • Use Location code 44036.
  • Night Time Visitor:
    • Night-time parking is exclusively available to commuter permit holders.
    • Overnight parking is allowed between 3:30 am and 6:00 am and Parking for commuter permit holders begins after 10:00 pm.
    • Use Surface Lots 1, 3, and 5 for overnight parking.
    • Utilize the Paybyphone App to pay for parking by the hour.
    • Use Location code 44037.
Electric Vehicle Charging
  • Currently, there are no EV charging stations available at Bloomfield Campus.

Other Parking Permit Options
  • Winter Permits: $25.00 plus tax.
    • Valid December 1 – January 19
    • Allows Parking in the Commuter Surface Lots# 1, 3 & 5 with no time restrictions.
  • Summer Permits: $25.00 plus tax.
    • Valid May 1 – August 31
    • Allows Parking in the Commuter Surface Lots# 1, 3 & 5 with no time restrictions.
  • Service Vehicle Permits : (Virtual)
    • Valid September 1 – August 31.
    • Allows the user to park in an SV space for a maximum of 90 minutes. Additional time may be requested by calling the Parking Office on a per-use basis.
    • All University-owned vehicles are required to park in Service Vehicle Spaces. If one’s personal vehicle is believed to be needed as a service vehicle on campus, the Director, Dean, etc. of that department must verify that need. Departmental vehicles can also be assigned a Service Vehicle permit.
  • Alumni Permits:
    • Allows parking in any Commuter Lots 1, 3 & 5 between 6:00 am-3:30 am Monday-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
    • Alumni ID is required to obtain this permit.
    • Must not be registered for any class in the current semester.
    • Permit is valid until the end of the current semester.
  • Emeritus Permits:
    • Valid September 1 – August 31.
    • Faculty members who have attained the rank of emeritus are eligible for the same parking privileges as full-time faculty and staff.
    • The faculty member needs to present a copy of the status award letter to Parking Services to have their parking account updated.
  • Reserved Parking Permits:
    • Valid September 1 – August 31.
    • Provide access to reserved spaces for specific University needs and are issued to departments or University Administrators as approved by the Director’s Office of Parking Services. Reserved Parking Permits are priced at a premium and are to be renewed annually.
  • Board of Trustees Permits:
    • Valid September 1 – August 31.
    • Provides access to General Commuter Surface lots, Faculty/Staff Restricted lots, Service Vehicle lots.
    • This permit does not allow access to reserved spaces designated to campus partners or Loading/Unloading designated spaces for more than 15 minutes.
    • Service Vehicle spaces are also available, limited to 90 minutes.

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 1-3 p.m.
