Lavone Broxton, Associate Director of Postal and Warehouse Services, received the Excellence in Management Award from the National Association of College and University Mail Services (NACUMS) at an awards ceremony held on July 18 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
NACUMS serves the interests of college and university mailers by facilitating communications and idea sharing between higher education institutions and the United States Postal Service, Postal Rate Commission, and others to ensure the best interests of its industry. The competitive Excellence in Management Award recognizes excellence in managing a stand-alone or combined in-house mail operation.
Nominees are evaluated based on cost savings or avoidance, management practice, personal growth, and personal traits of operations excellence. Mr. Broxton was submitted for consideration based on his innovations that created usage accountability and eliminated misuse of mailing processes. This resulted in 99% accuracy in departmental chargebacks and no reported and replaced lost packages. Among other notable accomplishments in operations and customer service, Mr. Broxton was cited for his creativity and leadership in transforming Postal and Warehouse Services into a full-service US Passport Acceptance facility that has generated $150,000 in revenue over the last three years. Additionally notable is his pursuit of a partnership with Amazon, which established five parcel lockers on campus- the first such arrangement in the state.
Mr. Broxton began his career at Montclair State University as a Stock Clerk and became the unit head through several promotions over 12 years. He serves on several industry Boards, including NACUMS and NJAPPA (the New Jersey chapter of the premier organization of facilities managers in higher education). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Montclair State University in 2021.
“Congratulations to Lavone for this well-deserved recognition from his peers,” says Assistant Vice President for Facilities Services, Leonard Jones. “He is an inspiration, and the Postal and Warehouse Services unit will continue to excel with his leadership and dedication to University Facilities.”
