Meghann Smith, 3rd year graduate student in the Environmental Science & Management PhD program, was awarded the Best Paper Award in the Graduate Student Paper and Poster Competition for her paper “Hard Apple Cider in the New York Hudson Valley Region: A Tourism Study.” She was awarded a $100 prize during the Middle States American Association of Geographers annual meeting held at the SUNY Geneseo campus, and was given an additional $1000 travel award to help send her to the 2018 American Association of Geographers annual meeting held in New Orleans, LA. Meghann’s award winning paper was based off her Master’s thesis research within MSU’s Nutrition and Food Science MS program, and has since been published in the Middle States Geographer. Now, Meghann continues to pursue her research interests through a different perspective exploring the sustainability of hard apple cider as an environmental and socio-economic assessment.
