Isamar will continue to investigate the subject of her masters research exploring the roles of evaporation and precipitation rates on mangrove island morphology, including sites in Florida, and the Caribbean. She is using NASA and other remote sensing data to inform her research and aid in the development of a model that describes the likely behavior of mangrove ecosystems under rapid climate change. The NASA fellowship was designed to support independently conceived research or senior designed projects by highly qualified graduate students, in disciplines needed to help advance NASA’s missions, affording students the opportunity to directly contribute to advancements in STEM-related areas. Isamar’s Ph.D. research will extend the use of remote sensing to include the entire Landsat record and NASA/CONAE Aquarius/SAC-D salinity data, in addition to high resolution imagery, TRMM, and other data.
