A Promising Evening

Posted in: Events

It’s always worthwhile to go to an event hosted by Vikki Pryor. More than worthwhile.

The evening of Aug. 1 was no exception. Pryor is the founder of the Change Create Transform Foundation, and the organization holds an annual dinner in New York City. The dinner helps support the Promise Prize scholarships that the foundation awards each year. Montclair State student Alanda Alexandre received the $5,000 award in May, the first time the Promise Prize has been given at Montclair State.

The event at the Princeton Club in Manhattan included speeches from past Promise Prize recipients, all young adults who inspired the crowd with their poise and professionalism after overcoming tough challenges. One past recipient, who is pursuing acting, performed a moving poem that prompted a standing ovation from the crowd.

There were other art elements too, mainly jazz songs by Jason “Malletman” Taylor (a Jersey guy!) and his band.

And, as I know by now, the networking at the event was top notch.

Vikki Pryor knows how to assemble a room of people you just want to chat with.
