Wendy Nielsen published a chapter in Romanticism, Rousseau, Switzerland: New Prospects, eds. Angela Esterhammer, Patrick Vincent, and Diane Piccito (London: Palgrave 2015). "Rousseau’s ‘Pygmalion’ and Automata in the Romantic Period" explores Rousseau’s lyrical scene alongside the phenomenon of other artificial life forms such as automata and Frankenstein’s creature.
