Lucy McDiarmid, Marie Frazee-Baldassarre Professor of English, gave three major invited lectures in Ireland recently.
In September, she spoke at the Lady Gregory Autumn Gathering in Gort, Co Galway, Ireland, on the topic “Emotions and Behaviours in Fairy Legends Collected by Lady Gregory.”
In July, she lectured on “The Poetry of Hair: W. B. Yeats, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, & Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill” at the Yeats International Summer School, Sligo, Ireland.
And in June, she was one of seven scholars invited to speak at a Queen’s University Belfast symposium celebrating the 80th birthday of Michael Longley, honored as the Ireland Professor of Poetry (2007) and as the recipient of the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry (2001). Professor McDiarmid’s lecture was titled “Longley Reclining.”
