American Literature Specialist Responds to NJ Debut of A Quiet Passion at Arthouse Film Festival
Posted in: English Department
Dr. Laura Nicosia highlighted a Q-and-A session in response to the highly-anticipated biopic, A Quiet Passion, based on the life of American poet, Emily Dickinson. The Terence Davies film starred Cynthia Nixon, Jennifer Ehle, Emma Bell, and Keith Carradine. After the film debuted, Nicosia addressed Arthouse Film Festival attendees with a critique of the film’s accuracy and its insight into the life and career of the American poet.
Davies, the acclaimed British director (House of Mirth, The Deep Blue Sea) evokes the idiosyncrasies of the Dickinson family and fosters the ambience of the "manners, mores and spiritual convictions of her time" (Music Box Films). The film has garnered numerous awards at festivals around the world (Special Gala Presentation, Berlinale International Film Festival Official Selection, Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival).
