Audio Recording Policy

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Disability Resource Center (DRC) established the Audio Recording Policy regarding the provision of audio recording during lectures and lab courses.

Students approved to record lectures as a reasonable accommodation may audio record class lectures/labs to support their learning needs. Such recordings are permitted solely for the student’s personal academic use during study or completion of required course activities. At no time shall the student share or reproduce the audio recording in any manner without the consent of the course instructor/lecturer and all other individuals in the recording. This prohibition includes but is not limited to: distribution to current, former, or future students; posting to social media or another online platform or; broadcast of audio content in any manner or media.

Procedure

A student with a disability must contact the Disability Resource Center (DRC) to request reasonable accommodation and provide the appropriate documentation requested by the DRC pertaining to the disability. The student must attend an intake meeting with the assigned DRC Counselor to consider the request for accommodation. If an accommodation approving audio recordings occurs by the DRC, the student must complete the online Audio Recording Agreement in AIM when requesting the Accommodation Notice. The Agreement is completed once as acknowledgement and adherence to the Policy.

The Accommodation Notice indicating ‘Audio recordings’ will not be provided to the course instructor/lecturer until the Agreement is completed in AIM. If the Agreement is not provided within 7 business days (Monday- Friday, excluding holidays and weekends) after requesting the Accommodation Notice, the Accommodation Notice will be provided via email to the course instructor/lecturer without the accommodation of ‘Audio recording’. The student will not be permitted to record audio until the Agreement has been completed in AIM. When completed after the Notice was provided, the student must login to AIM and modify the accommodation request for each course, Select ‘Audio recording’ and resubmit for approval in AIM.
