Animal Transfer

The transfer of naive extra animals or animals that are no longer needed on a study protocol and that can be re-utilized in another study protocol is encouraged. This practice is an effective application of the 3Rs.

Animals can be transferred from one research protocol or PI to another pending the review and approval of the IACUC administration/attending veterinarian. Note: The Donating PI must include animal transfers within the applicable IACUC protocol(s), specifically in response to the “disposition” question in Section O. The Receiving PI must include “other PI’s” as a source in Section E.

  1. A Transfer Form must be submitted for all animal transfers.
  2. Please allow 10 business days from the day of submission, for the IACUC administration/Attending veterinarian to review the transfer request and provide a response.
  3. The transferring PI will continue to be responsible for the per diem charges, where applicable, until the transfer is completed.
  4. All rodent transfers will be handled by the LAR team, unless otherwise approved.
