McChesney Awarded Reisberg Memorial Student Achievement Award

Congratulations to Sean McChesney, Speech-Language Pathology student, who was awarded the Marni Reisberg Memorial Student Achievement Award.

The qualifications for the award have the student demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career path in medical speech-language pathology.  The recipient must exemplify an objective yet sensitive approach toward the patient during the evaluation and treatment process, be an active listener, and display the highest standards of integrity and ethical principles in accordance with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Code of Ethics.

Sean McChesney earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Villanova University. He worked as a teacher at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ for five years before deciding to continue his education. Sean chose to purse a Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Montclair State University. He was inspired to pursue this field of work based upon the experience of his brother and cousins, who benefited from the speech-language therapy services they received throughout their childhood. During his time at Montclair State University, Sean has had the opportunity to further his education and work with a diverse group of clients.  He has worked with clients of varying ages and disorders, including aphasia, dementia, dysphagia, and voice. He also had the opportunity to participate in the biofeedback clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of speech sound disorders.  Sean will be completing his externship requirements at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ. He hopes to purse a career in the medical field.
