AuD Students Awarded Scholarships

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is pleased to announce –
Katie Matofsky, a second year doctoral student in the audiology program, was selected to receive a Sorenson (formerly CaptionCall) scholarship award for the 2022-2023 academic year. Katie came to Montclair State for her graduate work after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yeshiva University/Stern College for Women in speech pathology and audiology. Her cumulative GPA at Stern was 4.0. She can converse in English and Hebrew. Katie became interested in audiology while working as a camp counselor where she helped her camper who wore hearing aids develop self-advocacy skills.
Salvatore Paporto, a third year doctoral student in the audiology program, was selected to receive the First Annual Audiology Doctoral Student Scholarship Award. This award is sponsored by the New Jersey Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of American (HLAA-NJ). Sal came to Montclair State for his graduate work after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Adelphi University. His cummulative GPA at Adelphi was 3.9. He can converse in English, French and Sign Language. Salvatore’s interest in audiology is inspired by his father who has a hearing loss. He wants to become a hearing health care professional that his father never had.
