11.3.11 Italia di Oggi

The Italian American Committee on Education (IACE), in collaboration with the Department of Spanish and Italian and the Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America at Montclair State University and the Universita’ per Stranieri di Perugia, is offering a unique professional development opportunity for current and future teachers of Italian.

Presenter: Dr. Nicoletta Santeusanio, Università per Stranieri di Perugia

Moderator: Prof. Roberto Dolci, Universita’ per Stranieri di Perugia

Description: This highly interactive workshop will be divided into two parts. Part I will introduce the methodology for unit development and will present concrete examples of instructional units developed around areas of current interest in Italy, such as the environment, immigration, family and school. Through the use of literature, newspaper articles, movies, commercials, songs, and other media, participants will explore how to develop and enhance Italian language skills as well as interpretive, interpersonal and presentational communication in the students they teach. In Part II, participants will develop their own units, using material furnished by the instructor. The finished products will be shared at the end of the session.

Professional Development Credit: >Participants will receive a certificate of participation from the Universita’ per Stranieri di Perugia. Teachers who wish to receive professional development credit for attending the workshop should consult their schools/districts. IACE will provide, upon request, a statement attesting to the length and content of the workshop.
