On Tuesday, October 19th, the Coccia Institute launched the Coccia Lecture Series, a new initiative featuring prominent individuals within the Italian American community. This occasion was marked with a talk with Dean Anthony J. Tamburri of the Calandra Institute, where his newest book was presented to the Italian American community at Montclair State University. This event also marked a return to an in-person modality for the Institute for the first time since 2019, as it was offered in a flexible hybrid format.
Tamburri’s latest book, entitled “The Columbus Affair: Imperatives for an Italian American Agenda,” offers a critical reevaluation of Columbus Day within the Italian American experience. Joining him in discussion was Leslie Wilson, Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Nancy Carnevale, Associate Professor of history; and Marisa Trubiano, Associate Professor of Italian. This event was moderated by the Director of the Coccia Institute, Mark Rotella.
