Club “Amici,” the official Italian American Student Organization sponsored by Montclair State University, constitutes an integral part of the work of the Institute. Consequently, new and exciting undertakings by the organization are leading to a greater awareness by other students and faculty on campus.

This year the Institute has agreed to sponsor on site program activities one of which is a weekly opportunity for students to meet informally and speak Italian in a social setting in with the assistance of a native speaker of Italian. Anacleto Bivone a student at MSU and native of Milano will provide a weekly talk on cultural insights and current topics of interest to young Italians such as dating, food, fashion, sports, and movies. This will be followed open exchange in Italian and refreshments.

Students have indicated the need for more opportunities outside the regular classroom to practice Italian and we expect this “Conversazione e Café” gathering to be a great success.

In addition the regular bi-weekly meetings of the Amici club will be dedicated to discussions about recent programs on Italian culture that students have attended. Each month starting in January and spread out until May, the Institute has co-sponsored with the global Education Center a total of over thirty programs on culture, music, art theatre and opera. Visit the Institute Website for a complete listing of the programs which are open to the public.

The Amici club will have a delegation at each event and report back to the regular club members who may not have been able to attend. Furthermore the students from the Amici club have agreed to become campus wide ambassadors to encourage by advertising to other students and faculty to attend these cultural events.
